De Pere’s Homecoming Week is October 6-12 and with the help of students and staff, the school has been able to prepare for this event, which will have a superhero theme.
Homecoming Week is expected to start with the Power Puff football games on October 6. The Power Puff is a girls only flag football game. Each class has their own team and donates the proceeds to a local teacher fighting cancer.
Continuing throughout the week, students can expect to have dress-up days: Monday, groutfit; Tuesday, Tacky Tourist; Wednesday, Hippie; Thursday, Superhero; Friday, class shirt or Redbird gear. To wrap up the week, the dance will be on Saturday, Oct. 12.
This is the fourth year Homecoming is back. Homecoming advisor Mrs. Sarah Hardy talked about the fundraising that goes into Homecoming.
“Parents’ Club helps out and they give us $125 for hallway decorating,” Hardy said. “They provide donuts for the winning class, so Parents’ Club is really generous.”
Other events start on Monday with the chalk parking event. Students can draw fun designs on their parking spot or a friend’s. On Tuesday, freshman and sophomores will have a cornhole tournament during flex, while juniors and seniors will do the same on Thursday.
On Thursday, the high school will put on the movie “ Spiderman” on the soccer field starting at 7 p.m.
“(Homecoming) is a way to represent where you come from and who you are,” Mrs. Hardy said. “High school is a special time. It’s a time like no other. We want to show our Redbird pride all the time, but this is your time.”
