Grab your witch hat and broom, and go see “Wicked.”
The Broadway musical “Wicked”, released as a movie on Nov. 22, became the seventh musical to hit the Top 40 in the past 25 years.
The movie “Wicked” is a prequel to “The Wizard of Oz”. It goes into depth talking about the witches Elphaba and Glinda and how they became who they are in “The Wizard of Oz” and how they had a friendship before Dorothy (the main character in “The Wizard of Oz”) came along.
So, should you see “Wicked” Part 1? 100% Yes.
But why?
The film is rated PG, making it appropriate for all ages. All age groups will be engaged with the movie.
However, the length can be hard for people. The film is 2 hours and 40 minutes long which can be hard to sit through. Even though the movie is long, it’s definitely worth your time.
For starters, the storyline of the movie is incredible. The film shows the struggles that Elphaba faced in her community because of her green skin and power to levitate objects; however, she was able to build an unexpected connection with Glinda, a girl trying to do anything to be popular, at Shiz University.
Despite their differences, the witches were able to build a strong connection that led them to become best friends.
The music is unmatched. Every actor and actress in the movie is talented, but the two main actresses, Ariana Grande and Cynthia Ervio, are truly impressive. They each took a world-known musical and made it their own.
The most impressive aspect about their singing is that it’s all their real voices. In the movie, all the music performed is live so nothing is auto-tuned or lip-syncing. Amazingly, the characters don’t hide behind auto-tune and other tweaks to their voices.
The choreography in the musical is impeccable, for each move relates to the story. These cast members are not only amazing singers but also all-star dancers. Through the dancing, they still convey their character’s personality and facial expressions. All of the dancing mends beautifully together and creates a new way of telling the story.
