Senior assassin has been a tradition at DPHS for many years. Each year a senior student runs and manages the game. This year that senior is Nolan Bailey.
The rules change depending on who is running the game. The initial cost for the game is 10 dollars per person. The last person remaining will win all the money. These are some of this year’s rules. When players are wearing glasses and goggles in public, they are safe and if they get hit by a squirt gun or Nerf gun when they are not wearing goggles in public, then they are eliminated. All school property is safe at all times. If the student is volunteering, they are safe. Each round lasts two weeks, and if an assassin doesn’t get anyone out in the two weeks, then they are out, and if a student is on the clock, they are safe.
When asked how it has been running this year’s version of senior assassin, Bailey responded with, “I’m gonna be honest, it’s pretty terrible to run the game. People don’t like what I do a lot of the time. There’s just a lot to deal with, with me making rules and people just disagreeing with me or saying that I’m making rules to benefit myself.”
This year, the first round started with 165 players. By the time round two started, there were only 57 players remaining. Now, being almost one week into the third round, there are less than 40 players remaining.
Then there are events called purges, where goggles don’t work anymore. Nolan explained that purge days are decided by someone who has been eliminated from the game to dismiss any bias people might think he has.
Bailey stated, “Even though it has been such a process during the game, I think that people who might want to do it next year shouldn’t be scared. It’s still a really fun time for everyone that’s involved.”
