One of the most well-known attractions in the city of De Pere is the Mulva Cultural Center. Located in the heart of De Pere, it’s a hub for art, culture, and uniqueness to meet.
Some of the events hosted by the Mulva include films, live theater productions, and art shows. There are also interactive shows such as “Wine and Art – Bob Ross Landscape Interpretation.”
Though many of these are catered towards an older audience, the center is still very teen-oriented, and one way they did this – as of Dec. 17 – is by making all exhibits and most films free to all visitors.
Miriam and Jim Mulva, the benefactors of the center, decided to award this gift to the arts community and De Pere.
Paige Lamers, a senior at DPHS who works at the Mulva, said, “Anybody can go now, and since it became free, it is accessible for anyone who wants to be there. It’s nice to see new guests come in and have them look at what we have to offer because it is a great place to learn about art and explore new interests.”
After working there for one year, she has noticed a rise in the number of young people who attend the events at the Mulva after it became complimentary. Many people didn’t know that entering the center was free, along with going to their cafe, gift shop, and restaurant. The only things that cost money were their theater, film, and art productions.
Most pricing barriers for visitors will be waived, but reserving timed tickets for entry to all exhibits is still required.
“The intention for the future is to keep it complimentary and as far as exhibits go,” Lamers said. “We pay to keep them open so whether one person views it or 20, we want as many people as possible to come in.”
Tickets for films and exhibitions are on the website and can also be purchased at the Mulva itself. Some specialty films can have a fee, but this will be visible when you book your tickets.
With an increase in visitors, they hope that reservations will be made beforehand so that the first-come, first-served system isn’t too crowded and guests have the most enjoyable experience possible.
