The gym is louder than it was a year ago, and so are the expectations.
For De Pere HS junior Will Krueger, the challenge isn’t something he runs from. Will meets it with a calm approach and focuses on the moment rather than the pressure.
“I try not to think about pressure,” he said. “At the end of the day, it’s just a game.”
This season looks different for Krueger after playing behind a senior-heavy lineup last year; he has stepped into a role where his team relies on him more.
“I’ve been able to be relied on more and score in different ways,” Krueger said. With that responsibility, has come confidence. Krueger has scored 15 points per game with a field goal percentage of 51.4 percent overall and 46 percent from 3-point range.
Last year, he averaged 2.6 points per game.
When shots aren’t falling, Krueger looks for other ways to leave a mark.
“If shots aren’t falling, I try to get back on defense and earn it back,” he said.
That ability has helped Krueger’s growth. As the season goes on, Krueger’s steady approach continues to show, both in his confidence and production. He has averaged 4.0 rebounds a game, and his Redbirds are 8-2.
