Q: Who does your podcast consist of?
A: The bulk of the talking is me. I ask all the questions, and then my son answers them, and then we give feedback about them. I usually try to have some fun facts about that question and then we both react. So, I’d say, I do about 75% of the talking while my son does 25%.
Q: On average, how long is one of your episodes?
A: I want to say about 20 minutes, roughly. That’s what we’re aiming for, about 20-25 minutes.
Q: How many podcasts do you have?
A: I have two total. The first one I did was called “On Your Way Out”; it’s not active anymore but there are episodes out if people want to listen.
Q: How much time do you take out of your everyday life to record the podcast?
A: To record the trivia show, I put in roughly an hour and a half a week – 30 minutes or so to record, and then between writing questions and editing the episodes, it’s about an hour.
Q: What kind of topics do you discuss?
A: Anything that’s interesting to anyone. We cover so many different things. We cover movies, music, sports, seasonal trivia, holiday stuff, if there’s stuff coming up in the world, for example an all-star game or the Super Bowl. We’ll do Super Bowl trivia or Super Bowl MVP trivia, something related to what’s happening.
Q: Have you had any guests?
A: My wife came in once. I was sick one week and we needed to record, so my wife was on the episode that week. But outside of that, no. We’re hoping to have a guest for our 100th episode though.
Q: How many followers do you get on average for a podcast?
A: It’s hard to say specifically, but I would say we average somewhere around 400 to 500 listens per week. Our analytics can tell us we’ve had 750 unique people listen to us in the last month, with 200 in the last week. All time, I think we’ve hit about 14,000 downloads.
Q: Who is your audience?
A: Families. Families, and people who are looking for screen free stuff. The goal is you can play it in the background and not have to look at anything to do it. Everything is via audio. We’re talking about maybe adding a YouTube component just to get out there more, but we generally don’t want people on screens.
Q: What is your favorite episode you have produced?
A: We did one for my birthday where it was 80s and 90s trivia. My wife helped Emmett write the questions, and I answered them. That one was really fun.
Q: Why do you encourage people to listen to your podcast?
A: It’s a cool way to get off your phone. It’s great for long car rides to help keep up the monotony of it all. At the same time, we kind of have things for everyone. If you’re a gamer, we have gaming episodes, we have movies, music, literature, current events. One of our biggest episodes for the last two years now has been our yearly review. It’s something for everyone, and you learn something new.
Q: Where can I find the podcast?
A: Anywhere you listen to podcasts. Spotify, Apple, Amazon, Google, you’ll find it.
