On a normal Sunday evening, my mother received an Amazon package, and what was inside was something I would have never expected – a shirt with the words “Haunted by six seven” on it.
Then, the day before Halloween, the school hallways were filled with multiple teachers wearing a 6-7 shirt. When the older generations start using a joke, that’s when you know it’s been going on for too long.
The joke barely has a meaning, making it even more irritating. I could ask anybody why the joke is funny, and no one would be able to give me a good answer. I’m sure of it. People are constantly repeating something that isn’t humorous anymore.
It’s annoying.
As a teenager, I have a good amount of experience with the joke.
Some students have started to drift away from it, but a large number of them still have an obsession with 6-7 (especially the freshmen).
Every time students hear the words 6 and 7 in the same sentence, they glance at their friends and sometimes let out a giggle. Oh, and I can’t forget the weird hand motion everyone does.
Unknowingly, I always move my hands in that exact motion when I talk, and every time I do it, my friends make a face. I can’t even say or do anything normal because somehow the joke always pops up.
One time I heard a reference to the joke, and it was absolutely ridiculous. I was sitting in my algebra class when my classmate told me that she was going to dress up as “6-7” for Halloween. Genuinely, how does one even dress up as that?
The more teenagers repeat the joke, the more the younger generation says it. I have seen way too many 10-year-olds, sometimes even younger, say this stupid joke. It’s quite concerning.
Kids should be saying original jokes like knock-knock jokes or at least they should know how to have a sense of humor. Sorry to break it to anyone who loves the joke, but nowadays saying “6-7” does not make you funny.
These poor teachers constantly have to see this nonsense, but I can’t even feel bad anymore since some have started to overuse the joke as well. I’ll admit that it was funny when it started, and I would use the joke every day, but that was over a year ago.
Let’s go back to when 6 and 7 were simply just numbers. Seriously, I’m begging. We need to drop this joke like how we dropped skinny jeans.
Soon, everyone will realize “six seven” isn’t funny anymore and has to end.

“Jokes” like this one stick around for 1 reason, and 1 reason only: fomo. When we notice something is popular, and that everybody is doing it, we as humans (and especially teens and younger kids) want to “join the club”, or otherwise do what everyone else is doing. And when we do so, we get validation from others laughing at the joke, which increases the likelihood that the joke will be repeated. In a way, because of how quickly jokes like these spread, it’s almost like an entire generation is unified with 1 idea, or 1 “joke”. Yes, it can be annoying to hear repeatedly. Yes, it’s probably “gone on” for too long. But you can’t really blame those doing it for doing it, since they just want to be “in on the fun”.

I would say it’s gone on maybe six, seven times too long.

Yeah, about six, seven times too long. Also, I think it’s because they are consecutive numbers. It won’t die.
