When I scrolled through TikTok last week and saw video after video pop up about the new Wicked movie, I was extremely excited to watch it.
I enjoyed watching the first movie last year because the soundtrack was powerful, and the story line was emotional.
Let me just say my excitement was wasted.
I almost fell asleep three times while watching it. It wasn’t just me because even my mother was falling asleep. Sitting in the theatre for 2 hours felt like 24 hours instead.
The title is Wicked: For Good, but it should really be Wicked: For Bad, since bad is exactly what this movie was. The movie was not put together well and didn’t grab my attention because it failed to have detailed scenes.
Now, if you haven’t watched it yet, parts will be spoiled, so read the rest of this at your own caution.
My first complaint is that Dorothy wasn’t shown wearing ruby red slippers. The only part where the producers slightly mentioned ruby shoes was when Nessa said her feet felt like they were on fire, and her sparkly, glass shoes turned red. Although, later on, Dorothy was shown wearing the glass-like heels again. Is this supposed to be Cinderella?
Everybody knows the famous ruby red shoes, so only having a two-minute scene of them baffles me. I don’t know the reasons for this, but I’m sure the producers could have come up with something better.
Another reason is that the movie focused too much on Fiyero and Elphaba. I really wished it had stayed solely on the topic of Elphaba and Glinda’s friendship. In the first movie, their friendship was displayed throughout the whole movie, so why did they change it?
Additionally, the scene where Fiyero and Elphaba were in her little tree house was weird. I mean, I’m all for romantic movies, but Wicked is just not the type of movie to put so much romance into.
Lastly, scenes jumped from one unnecessary scene to another. For example, the flashback to Glinda’s younger self was definitely not needed. The scene didn’t really explain anything new.
Then, towards the end of the movie, Elphaba asked for a moment with her sister, Nessa, who had just died. 10 seconds later, she was in a fist fight with Glinda.
I don’t understand why Nessa, the literal Wicked Witch of the East, had her death pushed aside instantly. It should’ve been a bigger deal.
If you like unimpressive movies that leave you half asleep, then congratulations, this is the movie for you.

I disagree. Coen already mentioned the reason the slippers were silver, but Glindas flashback was necessary because it not only showed that she always had a desire to posses magic, but also because in that scene, her parents told the other kids at the birthday party that Glinda had created the rainbow, when in reality she had not. Its a parallel to how the wizard and Madame Morrible tell the citizens of Oz that Glinda is a good witch and giving her a bubble to make people believe she had magic. It shows Glinda is always fake so while it may not have added any new content, it went more in depth to one of the major topics of the movie.

The slippers in the book are silver, and the Broadway show is a prequel to the book, and the movie is based on the Broadway show, so the original Wizzard of Oz movie is wrong, and Wicked/Wicked: For Good is the one that got the slipper color correct. And the scene with Glinda as a younger child shows that she’s always wanted to be magical, and you can see that in the first movie, and for most of the second movie, but at the end of the second one, Glinda lets go of that by inprisoning Madame Morrible, showing that the fate of Oz matters more than her wish to be magical. Though I do agree with Nessa’s death being pushed aside, and the scene in the tree house being weird and out of place.
