As someone who takes dress-up days really seriously, I was very excited to participate in last week’s dress-up days (Dec. 15-19) . I took notice of how many students dressed up and how much effort people put into each of them. Some days were underwhelming, and some were successful. Overall, these first five days were somewhat disappointing compared to prior dress-up days.
Monochromatic Monday: On this day, I didn’t notice many people wearing a monochromatic outfit, but the first days of dress-up weeks are always a miss. What I don’t understand is how some people used the excuse, “I didn’t have anything to wear.” It’s such an easy theme. Just wear black on black, grey on grey, etc. However, I saw a few good outfits, such as a blue Aritzia sweat-set. As for me, I dressed up in a jean jacket and jeans. I thought it was a fantastic monochromatic outfit. This day was my favorite outfit of the week.
Winter Out Tuesday: This one was a disappointment. It’s not that no one dressed up; it’s just that everyone’s outfit was boring. I had my ski goggles, black vest, and pants, which somewhat look like snowpants, on the whole day; meanwhile, others were simply wearing their coats. I expected people to be more expressive. People could’ve at least worn a hat along with their coat.
Candy Cane Wednesday: I was very pleased with the number of people who participated. Red and white outfits were all over the school. I will say that some people only wore a red shirt and called it a day, but it’s the thought that counts. My favorite outfit was this girl’s candy cane sweater. I wore a red and white striped shirt with my red and white Converse. Was it kind of giving a Where’s Waldo vibe? Yes, but that’s OK. I think most people participated in this one since everyone has red clothes and white clothes sitting in their closet. Candy Cane Out was a big success.
Flannel vs. Fleece Thursday: I noticed the majority of people wore fleece. I wasn’t really expecting it since flannel is kind of a staple in many people’s wardrobes, but I guess the trend is fleece zip-ups now. Apparently, I don’t own a single piece of fleece clothing. I wore a green flannel, and honestly, I might have been the only student wearing a flannel. It seemed that the majority of the teachers wore flannel shirts. It looks like flannel is an older generation trend, and fleece is for the newer generation. Flannel vs. Fleece was a success, but really only on the fleece part.
Packer Gear Friday: I don’t have much to say about this one. We live in Wisconsin, so obviously, this day was very successful. The halls were filled with Packer jerseys, sweatshirts, etc. Although I did see something that was very shocking – a girl was wearing a BEARS jersey. I mean, props to her for having the bravery to wear that to school. Besides that, there were no other surprises, and the first 5 days of dressing up ended on a good note.
