Striving to spread his love for the language, French teacher Mr. Mohar decided to start an Honor society for students who have invested themselves into his classes.
“A lot of people don’t realize that French is spoken on every continent and is the number three business language,” Mohar said. “So it’s also a vehicle for the proliferation of the language.”
The main purpose of the French Honor Society is to recognize those who have taken and studied French for four or more semesters.
Each student in the Society should be a good student in all of their classes, Mr. Mohar said. Additionally, students must have an A minus or higher grade average in all of their French classes.
“We don’t want people to just throw themselves into one class,” said Mohar. “You need to be well rounded.”
The Society is about changing not just highschoolers’ way of thinking, but the whole community’s mindset, Mohar said. The Society wants to show everyone the importance of the French language and how it can be used for good.
The group is planning on going to Milwaukee for a restaurant tour day with other French classes around the area. They also have plans of speaking to kids at Foxview and the Middle School about French opportunities at the High School.
Mr. Mohar had had plans to get the French Honor Society off the ground in previous years, but it takes a lot of hard work from the teacher and students as well as approval from administration. Though, this year is the year. Inauguration is set to be some time in the next couple of weeks.
